Rose Bowl History:

The Rose Bowl is a yearly American college football game usually played on January 1 at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California. Sometimes called "The Granddaddy of Them All", the Rose Bowl is part of the yearly contest of Rose Bowl events. It was first played in 1902, though the next pastime was not play until 1916. The contest also includes a procession with floats enclosed with flower petals. Before the Rose Bowl Stadium was built in 1923, games were played in Pasadena's Tournament Park, approximately 3 miles southeast of the current Rose Bowl stadium.

In its near the beginning years (except during the first world war), the pastime always feature a team (not necessarily the conference champion) as of the Pacific Coast meeting, as well as a team invite from further east. The Starting point of the Rose Bowl History was in the 1947 game, the game's participants were recognized as the champions of the Big Ten and Pacific 10 conference. Since 2002, however, with the creation of the Rose Bowl Championship Series system in the top years of the Rose Bowl History, the team selection for the Rose Bowl is now tied into the additional three BCS Bowls, although in any given year the Rose Bowl still attempt, if likely, to uphold the traditional Pac-10 - Big 10 format.
