On April 29, 1986, Roger Clemens became more than New England's best kept secret. That night, the Boston Red Sox hurler struck out 20 Seattle Mariners en route to a 3-1 victory. Clemens broke Tom Seaver's, Steve Carlton's and Nolan Ryan's modern mark of 19 Ks in a game. (The 19-K record was also shared by two pitchers in the late 1800s). From that night on, Clemens became the strikeout king of the American League. Ten years later, on Sept.ember 18, 1996, lightning struck again when he K'd 20 Tigers at Detroit.
On April 29, early in his streak, Clemens faced the Seattle Mariners Tickets, in Boston. The day began badly for Clemens, as he got caught in a traffic jam and barely made it to Fenway Park before game time. Throwing on his uniform, he hurried to the bullpen to warm up. "I had nothing in the bullpen," he said. "I don't know if I threw a strike." Kids get their love of baseball from their parents. Many players have followed their dad's lead to buy Seattle Mariners Tickets: Bret Boone and Barr Bonds to name two, and one player, Casey Candaele, followed his mom, a player in the old AAGPBL. But only Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. ever played in the Major Leagues at the same time. In 1990 and 1991, Seattle Mariners Baseball had both Griffes on their roster. Their highlight was hitting back to back home runs at Anaheim on September 14, 1990. The Griffeys wens born in the Pennsylvania steel town of Donora, the birthplace of another ball player of some repute . . . Stan Musial.
But when Ken Griffey, Jr., came to the Majors as a 19-year-old in 1989, onlookers saw that he might be just as good as his father. And Dad agreed, saying, "He reminds me of myself. He has power and speed-even more than I had." Junior appreciated his father's support in those early days. "It's a great compliment when people compare me to him," he said. "I sure wouldn't mind being compared to him after my Seattle Mariners Tickets career is over, too." During Junior's rookie year (1989), his father was playing for the Reds. Midway through 1990, though. Cincinnati waived the elder Griffey, allowing him to sign with the Mariners, so he could end his career on the same team with his son.
On August 31, 1990, Ken Griffey, Sr., batted second and played left field in a game against Kansas City. Junior played center field and batted third. During that game, they hit back:to-back singles. Afterwards, they both called the experience the greatest of their careers. But they went one better in a September 14 game against the California Angels. Hitting against Kirk McCaskill, Senior slugged a home run. Then Junior followed with one of his own. They hugged in the dugout, and then went back to work, just as a pair of Seattle Mariners Tickets professionals should. Ken Griffey, Sr., hit .377 playing beside and hitting in front of his son during their weeks together. Afterward, Junior couldn't have been more proud. "He protected me for the first 17 years of my life," he said of his father. "Now I can always say I protected him for a month and a half."
