Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are a professional baseball team that belongs to the Western Division of the American League (AL). In 1972, Major league baseball came to the Dallas Fort Worth area consideration of Arlington mayor Tom Vandergriff and franchise owner Robert Short. Vandergriff was able to convince the entrepreneurial Short to move his Washington Senators ballclub to Texas, and that's how the Rangers were born. The 1972 season got off to a threatening start when the April six scheduled start was canceled because of a player's strike and Texas Rangers Tickets. When the term began on April 21, only 20,105 fans came out to see the Rangers' first ever triumph. Arlington Stadium had the ability to host 35,694 fans, but this turned out to be the second largest crowd of the opening season. Ted Williams, the Rangers' first manager, could not stand the constant losing of a 54-100 first season in Texas and stepped down at the end of the year. The 1973 season was even worse because the club went through a 57-105 record and went through three different managers. The best part of the season came in June when the first Rangers Tickets sellout crowd in Arlington Stadium history saw newly drafted eighteen years old David Clyde win his debut over the Minnesota Twins.

The 1974 season was very critical because it marked the trade of the club from Short to a group headed by plastics tycoon Bradford Corbett. This transition highlighted an upswing on the ground, as the club ended with a record of 84 to 76. This was a twenty seven game turnaround over the previous year and Billy Martin received the league's manager of the year prize. Mike Hargrove, First baseman, was called "rookie of the year", and outfielder Jeff Burroughs became the third player in the history of the major league to be named a league's most precious player in his second full season of play. Moreover, Ferguson Jenkins won a franchise record and league leading 25 games. Buy Texas Rangers Tickets. The next season was excitedly anticipated. However, the Rangers went back to the previous form, and Martin was fired in the mid season. The 1976 season was similar to the previous year because the team was able to win only seventy six games and traded away Burroughs and Jenkins. The wacky campaign of 1977 was expected to be another season of sub-par Rangers baseball, but it turned into the team's most victorious season. Although the Rangers went through four different managers, including Eddie Stanky for one game, they won ninety-four games, finishing second in the division. The club slipped to eighty-seven wins the next season but again finished second in the division. This prototype continued through the 1981 season, with the team having decent Texas Rangers Tickets records but never finished higher than second. The Rangers dropped in ability, talent, and record throughout the first half of the decade when worth oilman Eddie Chiles had bought the club. In 1986, the hiring of manager Bobby Valentine saw a brief upswing with his young team of inspired rookies winning eighty-seven games that year. However, the next two years the team resulted in identical sixth place finishes.

The 1989 season saw the coming of superstar Nolan Ryan, as well as upcoming superstar Ruben Sierra. The team won 83 games, and there was increasing hope. Fans were turning out in large numbers in which a group was headed by George W. Bush had purchased Texas Rangers Tickets for the team. The Rangers success was again seen in the first half of the 1990s. Juan Gonzalez won nonstop league home run titles in 1992 and 1993. In 1994 the highlight of the team's twenty-two year stay in Texas was at last unveiled when the Ballpark in Arlington was opened. Pitcher Kenny Rogers christened the premier ballpark in July of that year with the first perfect game by a left-hander in American League history. The Rangers finally went on to finish first in their division in 1994, in spite of a losing record, but the mid-August strike by major league players finished that year's postseason, and the team's first possibility to reach the World Series ended prematurely. The Texas Rangers fell to third in their division in 95', under the new manager Johnny Oates, despite posting a winning record, but went on to win divisional titles in 3 of the next 4 seasons (96', 98', and 99'). Regrettably for the team's fans, the Rangers had to play (and lose to) the New York Yankees in the playoffs each time. As the Rangers were unable to recompense for the loss of Gonzalez and pitcher Aaron Sele, who left as free agents after the 1999 season, and All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who missed almost half the season with a busted finger the Rangers fell to fourth  place in 2000. Before the 2001 season, owner Tom Hicks sent a big surprise through the baseball world when he signed slugging shortstop Alex Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners, generally well thought-out the best player in the major leagues, to a ten-year, $252 million Texas Rangers Tickets deals, by far the richest in baseball history.
