M.J. GOES UP AND UNDER AGAINST THE LAKERS Chicago Bulls 107 Los Angeles Lakers 86 June 5, 1991, Chicago Stadium, Chicago, Illinois. Calling one play the greatest of Michael Jordan's career is not unlike calling one raindrop wetter than another. However, those who witnessed Game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals came away knowing they saw something special. The Lakers had stolen the series opener in Chicago and the Bulls knew they needed a big performance before heading west. They got a spectacular one, particularly on Jordan's memorable drive to the bucket.
"His Airness" drove the lane past the Byron Scott with the ball in his right hand. As he took off for an intended dunk, Laker forward A.C. Green slid off his man to help. Not a problem for Jordan. He adjusted his body on the fly, switched the ball to his left hand while in mid-air and flipped a shot off the glass end into the hoop. The play sparked the Bulls toward a 107-86 blowout, and they won the next three games as well to claim their first NBA championship.
