The Cleveland Cavaliers are once again the talk of their town. Thanks largely to the eye-popping play of sensational youngster LeBron James, the Cays became one of the NBA's feature attractions in 2003-04, prompting frequent sell-outs and television ratings nearly three times those of the previous season.
Things have not always been that way of course. Bill Fitch said when he took on the expansion team's first coaching job in 1970: "Remember, the name is Fitch. Not Houdini." There was no magic for the first 15 games of the team's existence, all losses, before the Cays earned their first win. After five straight losing seasons, Cleveland Cavaliers Tickets finally posted a winning mark in 1975-76 and each of the two subsequent years. However, a stretch of nine more losing campaigns followed, including a wretched 15-67 mark in 1981-82 that "featured" four head coaches and 23 players. It wasn't until Coaches George Karl and Lenny Wilkens put their respective stamps on the team in the mid- and late-1980s that prolonged winning took root. With Ron Harper, Hot Rod Williams, Brad Daugherty and Mark Price forming the nucleus, Cleveland Cavaliers tickets started to blossom in 1988-89. Despite two 57-25 seasons in the span of four years, the Cays could not figure out a way to solve the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls in the playoffs. Cleveland Cavaliers Tickets are now viewable and hoping James can pave the way to championships just as a previous No. 23-Jordan--did for the Bulls.
1970 The Cleveland Cavaliers Tickets enter the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves.
1970-71 After 15 losses in a row, a 105-103 win in Portland lets Coach Bill Fitch's team taste victory for the first time.
1974-75 The Cays leave Cleveland Cavaliers Tickets Arena for the Coliseum in Richfield, but it can't save them from a fifth straight losing campaign.
1975-76 Jim Chones is one of seven Cays to average double-figures as the team wins the Central Division and makes the playoffs for the first time.
1978-79 The Fitch era ends when he resigns to coach the Celtics.
1981-82 With four coaches calling the shots at times, Cleveland Cavaliers wins 15 games against 67 losses, one of the worst marks in NBA history.
1984-85 A young George Karl takes over as coach and returns the Cays to the playoffs.
1986-87 The Cleveland Cavalier's biggest leap takes place before this season, when Wayne Embry becomes V.P./General Manager, Lenny Wilkens is hired as coach and Brad Daugherty, Mark Price and Ron Harper arrive via the draft.
1987-88 Michael Jordan averages 45.2 PPG against Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs as the Bulls start a tradition of eliminating the Cays. The next year, M.J.'s famous turnaround jumper over Craig Ehlo does it again.
1991-92 Larry Nance becomes the NBA's career blocked shots leader and Price and Daugherty make the All-Star Game. Cleveland Cavaliers wins 57 games for the second time in four years.
1997-98 Shawn Kemp becomes the Cays' first All-Star starter.
2003-04 After one of its worst seasons ever in 2002-03, Cleveland Cavaliers wins the right to draft homestate high school phenom LeBron James, who enjoys a stellar rookie season.
