Utah Jazz Players

"No one as done more to make this franchise the pride of the NBA than John Stockton.-NBA Commissioner David Stern at Stockton's 2003 retirement sendoff, which drew 20,000 fans in Salt Lake City. It's hard to miss Utah Jazz John Stockton's (Utah Jazz Players Information) longtime teammate, Karl Malone, who goes by the nickname "Mailman" and looks like he could have been a football star had he chosen to be. Stockton, on the other hand, looks more like a businessman than an NBA superstar, and would have been quite content never having being called one. For two full decades with the Utah Ja77 however, basketball's most reluctant hero delivered more assists than any player-athletic-looking or otherwise-who ever dribbled a basketball. Longtime Jazz coach Frank Layden called Stockton "the Michelangelo of point guards." Adds Jerry Sloan, another Utah coaching legend: "If you wanted to learn and study how to approach the game, he's the consummate guy to follow."

Aside from his eye-popping Utah Jazz Players Information statistics, Stockton deserves recognition for his durability alone. His 19 seasons with Utah set an NBA record for service with a single franchise, and he played in each of Utah's games in 17 of those campaigns. He is only the seventh man in history to play in the NBA at age 41. Of course, Stockton did more than play. He played the point guard role in textbook fashion, earning 10 trips to the All-Star Game. "He's playing against guys who are 21 and still beating them," said teammate Matt Harpring in 2003. Stockton owns the NBA records for career steals and assists, and neither mark is in danger of falling any time soon. His .515 career field-goal accuracy is among the best ever among guards.

Few would have predicted that level of success for the scrawny point guard out of Gonzaga. On the whole, Jam, fans were less than thrilled when their team drafted him 16th overall in 1984. The following year, they picked Malone out of Louisiana Tech, and the best pick-and-roll combination in basketball history was off and running. Stockton and Malone were teammates on the 1992 and '96 gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic teams. Utah Jazz Tickets Information are available too. They were co-MVPs of the 1993 All-Star Game in Salt Lake City and, more significantly for Ja77 fans, they led the team to the NBA Finals in 1997 and '98, falling both times to the Bulls. Stockton ranks among the all-time playoff leaders in assists and steals.
