The Los Angeles Lakers Information on the Basketball Team had come so close to derailing the Celtics' dynasty in the 1962 NBA Finals. They felt their chances were even better in 1963 against a Boston team that some deemed to be too old to continue its dominance. How wrong those "experts" were. Boston took a 3-1 series lead but squandered a chance to close out the series at home in Game 5. Heading to California for Game 6, fans couldn't help but anticipate a repeat of the previous; season's seven-game classic. The series never got that far. The Lakers trimmed a nine-point deficit to one . entering the final minutes of Game 6, but 34-year-old Bob Cousy worked his' ball-handling magic, forcing the Lakers to foul. Cousy wound up dribbling out the clock in the final game of his career, retiring with five consecutive championships.
