Patrick Ewing Jr. was the greatest jump-shooting center in NBA history. He was almost automatic from either baseline. He retired as the Knicks' career leader in 11 statistical categories, including games, points, rebounds, steals and blocked shots. He led the team in scoring and blocks for 12 straight seasons and in rebounding eight times during that span. "In a way, he is the Knicks," said former teammate Allan Houston. "He's what this organization is all about." Patrick Ewing Jr. was born in Jamaica and moved with his family to the United States at age 11. He became a high school All-American in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and gained fame as the driving force behind Georgetown's powerful teams of the mid-1980s. The All-American led the Hoyas to the 1984 NCAA championship and a runner-up finish the following year.
NBA accolades came early for this dominant big man. He won the 1986 Rookie of the Year Award and, in 1988, started a run of 10 straight trips to the AII-Star Game (he made 11 trips in all). He led the Knicks to 60 wins in 1992-93 and to the Finals the following season, when they lost in seven games to Houston despite Ewing's Finals record 30 blocked shots.
