Dr. J wins MVP honors and leads the New Jersey Nets to its first title. 1975-76 The New Jersey Nets are champs in the ABA's final season before a merger puts them in the NBA, where they sell Dr. J to Philadelphia and suffer five straight losing seasons. 1981-82 Playing in East Rutherford, N.J., under Larry Brown, the New Jersey Nets Tickets make a 20-game leap from the previous season to reach the playoffs.
1983-84 Coach Stan Albeck promises fans the New Jersey Nets will win their first playoff series. Otis Birdsong, Darryl Dawkins and the New Jersey Nets respond with a five-game win over Philadelphia. 1991-92 New Jersey posts its seventh straight losing season, but the emergence of rookie Kenny Anderson-a New York prep legend-sparks a return to the playoffs. 1992-93 One month after the playoffs, 28-year-old Drazen Petrovic is killed in an auto accident in Germany. 1997-98 For the first time since 1993-94, the New Jersey Nets finish with a winning record. 2001-02 A trade for All-Star guard Jason Kidd triggers the New Jersey Nets' best NBA season. They go to the NBA Finals for the first time. 2003-04 Coach Lawrence Frank takes over for Byron Scott in mid-season, leading the New Jersey Nets to 25 wins in their last 40 games and the second round of the playoffs.
