There has never been a time when the Chicago Bears Football weren't part of the National Football League.
Bears founder George Halas was one of the participants at a September 17, 1920 meeting during which the American Professional Football Association was formed. Two years later the group changed its name to the National Football League.
Halas, who was an outstanding athlete, was hired by the Staley Starch Company in 1920 to form a company football team. After just one year, the company gave Halas the team, $5,000 and the right to move from Decatur to Chicago provided he agreed to keep the Staley name for another season. Chicago Bear Tickets went up after winning the championship; Halas renamed the team the Bears.
In 1925, he signed Red Grange and took him on a barnstorming tour with the Bears. Grange's presence lent credibility to professional football, which lagged well behind the college game in popularity. Chicago Bear Football Tickets are one of the best Tickets to be sold by us. Halas would be the driving force behind the operation of the Bears through the 1970s.
The team won two NFL titles in the 1930s and four in the '40s. After winning the 1946 championship, they made the playoffs just twice in 17 years and didn't win another title until 1963.
The Bears fell on hard times for another two decades until the 1985 team rode a ferocious defense to a Super Bowl victory. Bear Tickets came two years after Halas died but the championship season was engineered by coach Mike Ditka, who had played under Halas. Various members of the Halas family have had control of the franchise, keeping it in the family continuously for nine decades. Chicago has a rich football history, reflected by the fact that the Bears have had had more Hall of Fame members than any other team. Among them are a progression of legendary running backs of varying styles-Grange, Bronko Nagurski, Gale Sayers and Walter Payton.
The Bears finished 7-9 in 2003 and changed coaches. Former St. Louis defensive coordinator Lovie Smith replaced Dick Jauron.
