It took a while for the Denver Broncos to start winning but it's become a habit.
The Broncos, a charter member of the American Football League, didn't post a winning record until their 14th season. The lack of success led to fan apathy in the early days that almost cost Denver the franchise. All Denver Broncos Tickets are for sale. Some members of the ownership group wanted to sell the franchise to a group that planned to move it to Atlanta. Other members stepped up to keep the team in Denver and fans responded by almost tripling the Broncos' season ticket base.
What fans saw in the early days wasn't always pretty-including the uniforms. The Broncos debuted wearing second-hand uniforms, which included vertically-striped socks. The fashion faux pas became so associated with the team that a later administration had a public ceremony to burn the socks in the hopes of distancing the Broncos from their dubious past.
Running back Floyd Little was an early star for the Denver Broncos but the team stumbled to a 39-97-4 record during its years in the AFL. Denver's best record in 10 AFL seasons was 7-7 in 1962.
Things finally got better in 1973, when coach John Ralston led Denver to a 7-5-2 record. The Broncos fell below .500 just three times over the next 20 years. They finally made the playoffs in 1977 and represented the American Conference in the Super Bowl four times in the 1970s and '80s. However, they lost all four of those title games.
The fortunes really changed after quarterback John Elway became established as one of the NFL's premier players. Elway, who had been part of three Super Bowl losses, led the Broncos to consecutive Super Bowl championships in 1997 and '98 as Denver Broncos defeated Green Bay and Atlanta. Denver Bronco Tickets Coach Mike Shanahan put together a powerhouse team that went 26-6 over those two seasons and also won all seven of its playoff games.
