Jon Gruden
Pro Career: Jon Gruden was named the sev¬enth head coach in Buccaneers history on February 18, 2002, when Gruden signed a five-year contract. Jon Gruden, the NFL's youngest head coach at 40, led Tampa Bay to its first Super Bowl title in his first season as head coach in 2002. Gruden became the youngest head coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl, and he was also the first veteran head coach in the history of the NFL to lead his team to the Super Bowl in his first season with a new team. Before joining the Buccaneers, Gruden guided the Oakland Raiders to division titles in each of his final two sea-sons as head coach. He steered the Raiders to a 40-28 mark in four seasons from 1998-2001 with the club, including postseason appearances in 2000 and 2001. Under Gruden, the Raiders progressed to the AFC title game in 2000 and lost in 2001 in a divisional playoff game to ultimate Super Bowl champion New England. Gruden's offenses have fin¬ished among the league's Top 10 in four of the last past seasons, including fifth in 1999. Before his four seasons in Oakland, Gruden spent from 1995-97 as offen¬sive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and three years from 1992-94 as wide receivers coach for Green Bay Packers. He worked as offensive assistant for the San Francisco 49ers in 1990. Career record: 62-41.
Background: Quarterback at Dayton from 1982-84, graduating with a degree in communications. The Flyers had a 24-7 record in Gruden's three varsity seasons. Jon Gruden Coach collegiately at Tennessee from 1986-87, southeast Missouri State in 1988, Pacific in 1989, and Pittsburgh in 1991.
