Dave Wannstedt
Pro Career: Dave Wannstedt was named the fourth head coach in Miami history on January 16, 2000. In his four seasons, Dave Wannstedt has led the Miami Dolphins to a regular-season record of 41-23 and a pair of playoff appearances. The team's 22-10 regular-season mark in the first two seasons under Wannstedt was the best by the Miami Dolphins in consecuŽtive seasons since 1984-85. In 2000, Wannstedt guided the Miami Dolphins to the team's first AFC East title since 1994. Dave Wannstedt led the Chicago Bears to a 41-57 record in six seasons from 1993-98 as head coach, and in 1994 was named NFC coach of the year. Dave Wannstedt served as the Miami Dolphins ' assistant head coach in 1999. Dave Wannstedt began his NFL coaching career as linebackers coach with the Miami Dolphins in 1989. Dave Wannstedt spent seven weeks in that post during the off-season before hired in Dallas as the Cowboys' defensive coorŽdinator prior to the 1989 season. In 1992 the Cowboys led the league in total defense as they went on to capture the first of two straight Super Bowl titles. Career record: 83-82.
Background: Wannstedt coached colleŽgiately at Pittsburgh from 1975-78, Oklahoma State from 1979-1982, Southern California from 1983-85, and Miami from 1986-88. Wannstedt lettered three seasons from 1971-73 as an offensive lineman at Pittsburgh. Wannstedt was selected by Green Bay in the fifteenth round of the 1974 NFL Draft.
Personal: Dave Wannstedt was born in Pittsburgh on May 21, 1952. He and his wife, Jan, have two daughters, Kell and Jami.
