It's hard to believe but the New York Giants were not part of the National Football League when It formed in 1920.
Tim Mara bought the franchise for just $500 in 1925. Of course, he had to invest another $25,000 that year to keep the team in business. His commitment assured the NFL of having a team in the nation's biggest city.
Three seasons into their NFL history, the Giants were champions. They won the 1927 title and were a constant threat under coach Steve Owen. Make sure to purchase New York Giants Tickets to have a chance to watch them this season. The Giants were strong through the late 1950s and early 1960s. They won the NFL championship in 1956 and took six Eastern Conference championships in eight years from 1956-63. The team failed to adequately replace its aging stars and fell upon hard times that lasted nearly 20 years. For a time, they weren't even really the New York Giants. They left their familiar turf at Yankee Stadium and played in the Yale Bowl until their new home in East Rutherford, New Jersey was ready. The Giants' decline in the late '60s coincided with the rival Jets' rise across town.
The Giants' fortunes changed when Bill Parcells came in as head coach in 1983. Parcells barely survived a bad debut season but soon turned the team around. The Giants finished in first place in 1986 and went on to win the Super Bowl over Denver, their first league championship since 1956. They won again in 1990, beating Buffalo in what proved to be Parcells' last game as coach.
The Giants Stadium sagged under former Parcells assistant Ray Handley but improved under Dan Reeves. Jim Fassel got the team back to the Super Bowl in 2000, where it lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
Because of New York Giants Tickets, the Giants remain one of the NFL's most storied franchises and have honored 11 players by retiring their numbers.
After a dispirited 4-12 season, Jim Fassel was fired and replaced by Tom Coughlin, who acquired a reputation as a disciplinarian when he coached Jacksonville. Cheap New York Giants Tickets are in our inventory now, so make sure to pick up your tickets.
