For those who think they are the final fan of the Green Bay Packers, the team has created a chance for fans to become a lasting part of the Packers Hall of Fame. The Packers, the first professional football team to have its own hall of fame, were part on another first in 1998, when they announced the establishment of the Green Bay Packers Fan Hall of Fame. "I believe it is completely appropriate that the Packers take a foremost role in glorification their fans for their long-time faithfulness and pledge - chiefly when you believe that it is the fans who possess this football team," Packers President Bob Harlan said in lending his wholehearted support to the program upon its instigation. "It is a proposal that probably was long past due." The Green Bay Packers Fan Hall of Fame was initiated by the Packers and the Packer Hall of Fame, in combination with five corporate sponsors.
Fans propose themselves for the honor by submitting an essay of 500 words or less, accompanied by a photo or a two-minute video, explaining why they or another person are the ultimate fan and should be recognized. Finalists are chosen by the FAN Hall of Fame selection committee, comprised of members of the Packer Hall of Fame board and members of the Green Bay Packers' facade office. Ten finalists are chosen and profiled in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, as well as on the Packers' official internet site - packers.com. Fans are given an opportunity to vote on the 10 finalists whose stories were profiled. Voting ballots are accessible in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, online through packers.com and at the corporate locations of the program's sponsors. The nominee who receives the most votes each year is named as the honorary fan and is inducted into the Fan Hall of Fame. In credit of being selected to the FAN Hall of the Fame, the victor receives four club seats to a Packers home game - at which acknowledgment is given on the Lambeau Field replay board - a $500 Packers Pro Shop gift diploma and a road trip for two to a Green Bay away game, including game tickets, air fare and hotel accommodations. The honoree also is introduced during the Packer Hall of Fame introduction dinner, held each July, and has his or her name displayed in a place of honor in the Packer Hall of Fame.
