Al Davis Is so strongly identified with the Oakland Raiders it's easy to forget he wasn't there from the franchise's start.
Davis didn't join the Raiders until 1963, when he was hired to replace Red Conkright and become the team's fourth head coach in four years. Davis has since become the Raiders owner and has long headed one of the NFL's smallest front offices. At times, the Raiders club directory has consisted of Davis and a handful of hand-picked helpers.
Davis created the Raiders' motto ("Pride and Poise") and their terse, unofficial mission statement-'Just win, baby." His impact on the franchise has been enormous and it's been that way since he first got to Oakland. Davis took over a team that had gone 1-13 under two different coaches in 1962. In his first year the Raiders went 10-4. our goal is to carry Oakland Raiders Tickets for our clients. Aside from a brief stint as AFL Commissioner in 1966, Davis has been with the franchise continuously, steadily taking more responsibility through the years.
Beginning in 1965, the Raiders had winning records in all but one of the next 20 seasons. They won an AFL championship and took three Raiders Schedule Super Bowls. They are the only team to have been a Super Bowl participant in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. Over the years the Raiders have developed fierce rivalries because of their intense style of play, the success they've had and the often controversial presence of Davis, who is always seen wearing some combination of the Football Oakland Raiders trademark silver, black and white.
From the time Davis took over in 1963 until 1992, the Raiders had a winning percentage of .661, which was the best of any franchise among the major Oakland Raiders Tickets sports. The Raiders played in Los Angeles from 1982-94 because Davis got a better stadium deal there. He moved back to Oakland for the same reason, defeating court challenges from the NFL as he made the trip. The Raiders returned to former glory in 2003 when they again reached the Super Bowl-this time losing to a strong Tampa Bay team, led by Oakland's former head coach, Jon Gruden. But they went from the Super Bowl to a 4-12 season in 2003. That dive, combined with player mutiny, cost coach Bill Callahan his job. Former Redskins coach Nory Turner took over in Oakland.
