Mike Martz
Pro Career: Mike Martz was named twenty-first head coach of the St. Louis Rams on February 2, 2000. Mike Martz led St. Louis Rams to two division titles and three playoff berths in his four seasons as head coach, including berth in Super Bowl )00(VI. In 2003, he led the St. Louis Rams to their second division title in three years. In 2002, he became only second coach in NFL history to lead team to five consecu¬tive wins after a 0-5 start. Offensive mastermind behind one of the most explo¬sive offenses in NFL history, as St. Louis Rams are the only franchise in league history to score at least 500 points in three different seasons 526 in 1999, 540 in 2000, 503 in 2001. Since he rejoined the St. Louis Rams as offensive coordinator in 1999, the St. Louis Rams have scored more points of 2,332, gained more total yards of 31,193, and accumu¬lated more passing yards of 22,363 than in any club during a five-year span in NFL history. The St. Louis Rams also produced three consecutive NFL most valuable players quarterback Kurt Warner 1999 and 2001, running back Marshall Faulk 2000. Martz rejoined St. Louis Rams in 1999 after two seasons as quarterback's coach of Washington Redskins. He began his NFL career with the St. Louis Rams , where he coached tight ends, receivers, and quarterbacks from 1992-96. Career record: 45-24.
Background: Mike Martz played tight end at Fresno State in 1972 after transferring from the University of California-Santa Barbara. Began coaching career in 1973 at Bullard High in Fresno, California, before coach¬ing collegiately at San Diego Mesa Community College in 1974, from 1976-77, San Jose State in 1975, and Santa Ana College in 1978, Fresno State in 1979, Pacific from 1980-81, Minnesota in 1982, and Arizona State from 1983-1991, where he served as the Sun Devils' offensive coor¬dinator the final five seasons.
Personal: He was born May 13, 1951 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Graduated summa cum laude from Fresno State in 1973. He Lives with wife Julie and have three sons and one daughter.
