The US Open Tennis is the fourth and final event of the Grand Slam in tennis. The US Open Tennis Era began in 1968 when all five events were combined into the newly named US Open Tennis at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, New York where there where US Open Tennis Tickets to be sold. Notably, the 1968 combined US Open Tennis tournament was opened to professionals; neither predecessor tournament allowed professionals to play and compete and that attracted lots of people to buy US Open Tennis Tickets. That year 96 men and 63 women entered the event with prize money amounting to $100,000. In 1978, the event moved from Forest Hills to its current home at Flushing Meadows. At the start of the 20th century, the Men's Doubles was tearing into an East and West competition, the winners of which played-off the US Open Tennis for the right to get on the holders. This challenge round of the US Open Tennis was abolished in 1920, and the make unconscious system that we know today was employed. The introduction of the US Open Tennis era in 1968 created the modern event as we know it today. The five different competitions were merged into one US Open Tennis Championships, held at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. The prize money on bid totalled $100,000, and was public appropriately between the 96 men and 63 women who entered. In 1970, the US Open Tennis was the first tennis tournament in the Open Tennis Tournament US to introduce the tie-breaker system, after F.D. Robbins needed 100 games to defeat Dick Dell. By 1978, the tournament stirred to its current home at the hard courts of the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow, New York at the Open Tennis Tournament US.
The late 70's and early 80's were a golden age for the Americans in the Open Tennis Tournament US, with home favorites John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors winning seven successive titles between them. The women's game of the Open Tennis Tournament US was conquered by Billie Jean King in the US Open Tennis , Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova who have won fourteen titles between them over two decades. A new breed took over their layer in the 90's, with the appearance of more American talent after a period of success by Europeans. Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi had many famous duals on the courts, and Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport and the Williams sisters taking titles in the Ladies event.
